Liverpool FC's Jamie Carragher wanted by FA to coach next generation

JAMIE CARRAGHER will be offered the chance to launch his coaching career by working with youngsters in the England set-up.

The Liverpool defender has been identified by the FA as a top player with coaching ambitions capable of helping the next generation develop through the international ranks.

Sir Trevor Brooking, the FA’s director of football development, confirmed the FA were seeking to appoint new young English coaches.

Brooking said: “We will probably bring someone in, in the new year, trying to involve them across the broad part of the organisation, rather than just with the senior team.

“To look at our teams, our structure and sample what being an international manager is all about.

“Players who might be starting to think about doing courses can come in and watch the development teams train, just to see if they can have some input and if they like it or not.”

Carragher, who is sidelined until late February with a shoulder injury, has publicly stated his ambition to move into coaching and is in the process of acquiring his badges.

The FA rate him highly and would want him to start off doing sessions with their youth sides such as the under-16s.
