Ancelotti: Abramovich trusts me

Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that he has the full support and trust of Blues owner Roman Abramovich.

The double-winners face title rivals Tottenham on Sunday in the midst of their worst run of results for over a decade. The Blues have won just two games in their past eight in all competitions and have slipped to third in the Premier League table.

The slide has sparked speculation over Ancelotti's future at Stamford Bridge, but the Italian coach believes he has the full support of the Russian billionaire. "He understands very well the problems," said Ancelotti. "The injuries we have had and that we played good football but didn't win, which affected our confidence. He understood that.

"When I say I have total support, it means he's very close to me at this moment. For this reason, our relationship is very good. It's very important to have the support of the club and the players when moments are not good. You have to have trust with each other. He's been closer to us in this period compared to the other moments. I think I have trust in him and he has trust in me."

Chelsea are facing three games that could define their season. They face Spurs on Sunday then entertain Manchester United before taking on Arsenal at the Emirates. Ancelotti insists they will have a clearer picture of their title ambitions after then.

"I think it will be very important for us, the next games, said Ancelotti. "It will show if we are able to fight for the title this year. I'll try and take nine points. That's our aim. To take nine points. It's difficult to say a reasonable target. I'm not able to do this.

"We have to try to win against Tottenham and then try to prepare the game against United. At this moment the experience, character and personality are the most important qualities to help us move on quickly. Everyone can do more to help the team move on, not just the most important players. All my players are important."

He added: "I said if we need to improve our squad in January, we'll be able to do this. The owner is available for us to do this. But now's not the time to think about this. We have to play with these players against Tottenham."

Ancelotti also knows he has the green light from Abramovich to go on a spending spree in the January transfer window, should he decide reinforcements are required. "We spoke about the situation of the team, he added. "If I tell you that the owner is available to do something in January, it means we spoke about this."
