The prolific Mexican spoke to AS about his current impressions of the club, and reckons that the influential Portuguese boss will prove pivotal in returning silverware to the club after two barren seasons.
He remarked: “It is quite possible that they could win the league this season. With Mourinho on the bench, we will return to the headlines. What I like about him is that he is a genuine person, he has an enviable track record [and I] believe that he is the right man in the right place.”
Sanchez added, however, that it is important to distinguish the current Blancos line-up from the team he was a part of at the beginning of the 1990s.
He continued: “It is virtually impossible to compare. Football today is very different from my time. Today the game is more physical and artists have less freedom to create. Real Madrid have great players now, but it is different, very different.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is an awesome talent, but everyone expects a lot from him, and this could be detrimental to the player and the team.”
